Whistler Transit is seeking motivated people to join our team in providing transportation for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. This is your opportunity to be part of a once in a lifetime experience. Surround yourself in the atmosphere of the Winter Games and meet new people from around the world.

Who is Whistler Transit?

Whistler Transit is a subsidiary of Pacific Western Transportation (PWT) which is a privately held company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta that has operated Transit, School Bus, Coach and Charter Coach services for over 50 years. Whistler Transit Service operates transit services in the Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton area under contract to B.C. Transit. Whistler Transit has been contracted by B.C. Transit to operate and manage the operations of the Whistler portion of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. This will include servicing the bulk of the outdoor events, including Alpine and Nordic ski events (cross country, biathlon, ski jumping), Bobsled, and Luge.

Who can apply for Whistler Olympic Transit Positions?

Whistler Olympic Transit is now accepting applications from qualified and experienced applicants, including currently employed and recently retired employees of a Canadian public transit system or Canadian bus companies. To be a candidate you must:

• Be 21 years of age or older
• Enjoy interacting and meeting people (Hospitality Industry is our game)
• Pass security screening
• Have a clean driving record for the past 3 years

How can transit employees become available for the Whistler Olympic Transit Positions?

Many current employers have issued guidelines for people interested in joining the Olympic effort. Some of these options include:

• Scheduling annual vacation during this period
• Leave of absence opportunities
• Recently retired staff members wishing for a temporary return for the Olympic experience

Whistler Olympic Transit Employment Period

The actual Olympic Winter Games period is February 12 through February 28, 2010, with the operational period commencing February 1 through February 28, 2010.

• Training. Driver training will consist of a combination of internet based modules which the applicant must successfully complete, including an on-line Nova presentation and examination. Following, all experienced drivers engaged for the Olympic Transit positions will be required to attend a three day training and orientation course in advance of the February 1, 2010 start-up date. Training will be provided in Whistler over a three to five day period, depending on individual employee needs. It is anticipated that training classes will be conducted between mid November and the end of January. All successful candidates will be informed of their start date, including the training period, at the time of your Offer of Employment.
• All other available positions will have similar start up and training dates. Mechanics training will consist of an orientation session on arrival in Whistler to familiarize you with the equipment/units that will be in service. Washbay/cleaners will receive orientation with the equipment utilized and the units to be cleaned and fueled. Dispatchers/Supervisors orientation will consist of introduction to the facilities, familiarization of the schedules and routes, introduction to the key management as well as all processes involved. Successful applicants will be notified of their start dates at the time of your Offer of Employment.
• Priority will be given to candidates that can commit to the entire games period. Please indicate the period of time you can commit to working during the Games and include this in your application/cover letter (Example 2, 3, or 4 weeks).

Compensation, Housing, Meals, Uniform & Workplace Transportation

• All Whistler Olympic Transit Employees will be employees of PWT Whistler Transit. PWT Whistler Transit will pay all employees and make all federal and provincial payroll deductions
• Drivers will receive a set hourly rate of $24.05; Vehicle and shop cleaners will receive an hourly rate of $18.59 per hour; Mechanics will receive $33.75 per hour. Maintenance Foreman position is a salaried position based on $6000.00 per month. The position is a Term Position, commencing January 4, 2010 through March 12, 2010.
• Accommodation based on double occupancy (two people per room) will be provided for the duration of your contract with PWT Whistler Transit
• Two meals per day will be provided (one hot, one cold)
• Current or former transit or other professional drivers (transit or coach) are encouraged to bring their current uniform or uniform formerly used in employment. The intent is to display as many city transit or other coach company uniforms as possible represented at the Whistler Olympics. In the event you do not have a current uniform, applicants will be advised at the time of interview of requirements and provisions. Appropriate footwear and gloves are required as this is a winter program and working conditions will involve some exposure to the elements.
• Transportation from accommodation to work place will be provided

Travel Expenses

• Details regarding travel expenses are currently being finalized but there will be travel provisions for employees traveling long distances to Vancouver and Whistler from outside British Columbia or within the province. Provisions will likely include some or all of the following: Mileage or fuel allowance; Air vouchers with Air Canada. (Where deemed applicable) During the interview process, more details will be available.
